Two Tomb Raider games that were supposed to come out in 2022 on Nintendo Switch have moved to 2023.
Although we already know A A new Tomb Raider title is in the worksspin-off series Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris and Lara Croft and the Guardian of the Light, which will premiere at Nintendo Switch in 2022, now it will only be released later. As part of the Ask-Me-Anything thread on Feral Interactive Twitter (opens in a new tab) website, the game developers have admitted that the releases of both games have been moved to 2023.
This last-minute delay means you’ll have to cancel plans to play either title over the holidays (at least on Switch; both games are available on other platforms).
The final push
Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light was first released in 2010 for Xbox, PS3 and PC platforms, as well as iOS devices such as iPod, iPad and Apple computers. Unlike other Tomb Raider games, you control Lara in an isometric view, treating her more like a link from the old 2D Zelda games than the dungeon invader we first encountered on the original PlayStation. Another change to Guardian of Light was turning Lara’s adventures into a cooperative game, with the option of controlling either Lara or a 2,000-year-old Mayan warrior named Totec. You can also play it as a single-player campaign without it, meaning no pesky AI-controlled Totec will bother you.
Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris is a sequel from 2014, released on Xbox One, PS4, Stadia and PC respectively. Featuring a similar style to its predecessor, it again featured multiplayer elements – this time for up to four players, each with different weapons and abilities, allowing you to choose the character that best suits your desired gameplay.
In 2021, both games were announced for a Switch release, with the original release set for 2022. With just a few days left in the year, Feral Interactive announced the delay on Twitter, saying it “looks like it[s] can’t wait to share more in the new year,” but a specific release date has yet to be announced.
