Video editors on the move can breathe a sigh of relief – DaVinci Resolve for iPad finally made its way to the App Store.
Release Announcement on Twitter (opens in a new tab), Blackmagic Design, creators of video editing software, said: “DaVinci Resolve for iPad is now available! Get the same color correction and editing tools used in Hollywood movies on your iPad, plus Blackmagic Cloud multi-user collaboration, AI-powered magic mask, voice isolation, dialogue equalization, and more.
“Its sleek, modern interface is quick to learn and easy for new users, yet powerful for professionals,” claimed the breathtaking description of the App Store. Like its desktop counterpart, the iPad version is available for free and with almost no restrictions. A one-time premium upgrade costs just under $100 / £100.
Free video editing on iPad
Some long considered best free video editing software, the iPad version almost 1:1 mirrors the version of the professional desktop editor. It’s a feat that can’t even be matched Apple Final Cut Pro (although users can try Apple iMovie on the iPad for an overly streamlined experience).
With video editing software hitting the iPad, what will probably attract many content creators – apart from the non-existent price – is the ability to create Hollywood productions without a powerful video editing computer or video editing laptop.
The app-based Blackmagic Design Editor runs on an iPad Pro running iPadOS 16 or later on an A12 Bionic chip or later. But to really get the best out of the tool, an M1 or M2 chip is recommended. The makers also note that earlier iPad models may be limited to HD, with storage limitations potentially limiting some features.
In our last preview DaVinci Resolve for iPad, we were impressed with real-time color grading, multi-track audio, AI tools, and timeline editing tools. However, we ran into a few bugs and glitches in the beta version. I hope they’ve been ironed now video editing app is on full leave.
