Windows 11 users are experiencing a number of issues – many of which continue – after the latest OS update, according to Reddit reports.
A new and rather disturbing issue that some people have experienced has been highlighted in the thread Reddit (opens in a new tab) discussing the latest cumulative update for Windows 11 released earlier this week (KB5026372 for Windows 11 22H2).
A redditor tells us, “This update broke the widget panel again, and now it’s crashing something else; I think I will uninstall this update.”
In fact, it can freeze Windows 11 completely because the problem is with someone else (again on Reddit) draws attention (opens in a new tab): “Opening widgets has become a game of Russian Roulette. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it crashes the operating system.”
Another user joins the previous thread, noting that he is working on the exact same gremlin. Nasty indeed, although that being said, we’ve seen mention of a potential cure (we’ll mention this when we discuss it in a bit more detail below).
Elsewhere in the long Reddit thread for KB5026372, we see complaints that the issue of SSDs running much slower than they should have not been resolved (the issue has been going on since March).
There are also reports of VPN issues related to the upgrade – again, a constant glitch on Windows 11 – with speed drops when using L2TP/IPsec protocols, as well as reported connection issues.
Many people who use the Xbox controller and Xbox wireless adapter with their Windows 11 PC have complained about another issue. They discover the failure is when they turn off the controller. (But other than that everything works fine).
Seriously irritating TPM detection issues also remain, with several users complaining about this phenomenon (seemingly different AMD Ryzen processors are affected).
Analysis: Flak fired at Microsoft
Many of these reported issues are issues that have been spotted before and are circulating – and affected Windows 11 users are starting to get seriously annoyed that Microsoft hasn’t rolled out a fix for them yet.
We can imagine an SSD running much slower than it should (including booting up), then it will get old pretty quickly. And this bug has been around since March.
As one redditor notes (opens in a new tab): “Come on Microsoft… Security bugs and slowness should be prioritized over Edge ads in the search bar!!!”
We think they hit the spot.
As for the new widget issue, we don’t know how widespread it is. There are only a few scattered reports at the moment, so we assume that only a small number of people are affected. However, due to the crash of Windows 11, it is no doubt a rather nasty bug.
The good news regarding the flaw of the widget panel is that, as we mentioned above, there is an apparent cure. And that involves uninstalling the cumulative update and then reinstalling it, which according to one report fixes the problem. Of course, take this advice with a heavy dose of salt – it may or may not work, but it may be worth a try.
