We are laying the foundations for a great science-fiction enterprise
Foundation may not have laid the foundation for Apple TV Plus’s burgeoning list of sci-fi programming – that honor is due Seewhich had started two years earlier Foundation – but it certainly helps lead the charge now.
The highly ambitious (and no doubt expensive) TV series took time to make its way into season 1, but by Foundation Episode 10 showed that there is audience demand for this kind of series on Apple TV Plus. Not only that, but it proved that the tech corporation’s streaming service is capable of telling compelling long stories in a sci-fi space.
From FoundationAfter the first season ended, Apple slowly expanded its lineup of science-fiction TV shows. Invasion, Cutoff, Silo, Circuit breakersAND Hi tomorrow! all premiered on Apple, which is one of the best streaming services out there right now. And while we don’t know how well each one is doing – Apple is very secretive about its viewing figures – renewing some of these shows, such as the upcoming Cutoff season 2, clearly means that Apple has confidence in such a genre fare.
Apple TV Plus has also found success in other genres such as comedy (Ted Lasso, Shrinking) and psychological thrillers (Surface, Servant). But the company’s penchant for sci-fi-based TV shows and movies also seems to be paying off. Otherwise, he would not have given the green light to new installments Foundation and company. As with the entire universe, there’s no limit to the extent to which Apple’s sci-fi genres can explore – and fan expectations for Foundation Season 2 proves it.
