Ahsoka Tano star Rosario Dawson has apparently revealed when the Star Wars character’s TV series will make its long-awaited debut.
I keep talking Today with Hoda and Jenna (opens in a new tab)Dawson has hinted that the upcoming show will arrive on Disney Plus in late 2023.
Responding to comment that Dawson will play Jedi fan-favorite Ahsoka Tano in her own spin-off series, the actor said: “Yeah, it’ll probably come out in the fall. [Disney Plus movie] Haunted mansion will be released on August 1st. Dawson also performs Haunted mansionhence the reference.
This isn’t the first time Dawson has allegedly leaked information about Ahsoka’s TV series ahead of schedule. Dawson said in June 2022 Vanity fair (opens in a new tab) had her knuckles wrapped by Lucasfilm and Disney for apparently confirming that Hayden Christensen’s Darth Vader is coming to the Disney Plus project. It’s unclear if Christensen will appear in Ahsoka’s standalone series, but Dawson’s comments suggest he will.
Ahsoka’s TV show is in development as of December 2020. At the time, Lucasfilm confirmed its plan to create multiple spin-offs with The Mandalorianthe hit TV show Star Wars, including a limited series focusing on Ahsoka Tano.
Filming wrapped in October 2022, but there have been few official updates on how post-production is progressing. All we know is that Ahsoka’s TV show is set to air sometime in 2023. However, thanks to Dawson, we can expect another Star Wars live-action series – after The Mandalorian Season 3 it will air in March anyway – to move to Disney Plus in the next seven to eight months.
Analysis: Padawan error or Jedi mind trick?
As mentioned, Dawson tends to reveal important information about Ahsoka Tano’s TV show before she does. And on this occasion, there seems to be some truth to her claim about the launch window.
First, Dawson also states that Haunted mansion The film will debut on Disney Plus in August. Some fans might think she got the release month wrong, and the supernatural comedy is apparently set to arrive on July 28. But Disney’s first quarter 2023 earnings presentation slide (opens in a new tab) reveals Haunted mansion will air on August 11, proving Dawson right.
The same slideshow does not provide further information Ahsokarelease date, but it’s safe to assume the main star has some idea of when it’s coming, even if Dawson doesn’t know exactly when. Disney’s Q1 2023 Earnings Showcase lists all upcoming Disney Plus and Hulu shows through June 2023 – including Star Wars: Visions season 2which will start in May – i Ahsoka is not among them. So it’s not hard for Dawson to seemingly confirm that the Ahsoka TV series will land in the second half of the year.
However, there is a possibility that Dawson is playing us a Jedi mind trick. Since Lucasfilm and Disney have previously pulled her over Christensen’s involvement in the series, Dawson’s recent comments may be a diversionary tactic to try to throw us off guard over Ahsoka’s release date.
Dawson was also wrong about shows that were supposed to debut on Disney Plus in the past. In August 2022, Dawson hinted that Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher would get a Disney Plus series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). She later retracted these comments, saying she had been deceived by online pranksters.
So what should you believe? We think Dawson is telling the truth about Ahsoka’s launch window. It’s too close to its production not to have insider knowledge. Based on her faux pas regarding Christensen’s alleged involvement, revealing Ahsokathe potential release window (instead of the official release date) also doesn’t reveal anything important. Let’s hope that we will find out about the official release date during Star Wars Celebration 2023, which will take place in early April.
