Rumors of Google’s first foldable smartphone – the Google Pixel Fold – have been circulating for years, but we’re finally starting to see more concrete details about this hotly anticipated device.
According to 9to5Google (opens in a new tab)The Google Pixel Fold – which is expected to debut at or near Google’s next I/O developer conference – will be heavier than its main competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4. In fact, a source told the publication that Google’s foldable “could be thought of as a small tablet, which worries us a bit about its portability as an everyday device.
That said, the size of the phone’s battery sounds like the silver lining to all that excess weight. Google Pixel Fold will have a bigger battery than its Samsung rival, 9to5Google reports; which means we can expect a power source of at least 4,500 mAh.
No exact details have been shared about the Google Pixel Fold’s battery capacity so far, but we hear that figure “still [be] well below” 5000 mAh.
Even the best foldable phones favor thin designs over impressive battery life, so Google’s alleged preference for large battery capacity at the expense of keeping the Google Pixel Fold lightweight may at least help it stand out from the crowd.
What else do we know about the phone?
As for what else we’ve heard about the Google Pixel Fold, an allegedly dimensionally accurate hollow reference model of the phone has recently surfaced, giving us an idea of its functionality and hardware layout.
First off, this Google Pixel Fold model appears to have a shorter, wider screen than the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, boasting a 5.79-inch cover display – which may be easier to use with one hand – and a panoramic, horizontal style. diagonal of 7.67 inches.
At just 5.7mm at its thinnest point, the phone in question also looks super slim – which somewhat contradicts what we hear about the Google Pixel Fold’s supposedly significant weight.
However, perhaps those extra grams will come from the device’s rear camera setup. The model has reserved space for three main lenses, and the screen of the phone housing is to include a camera with a hole punch.
