Google Docs added increased visibility of nonprinting characters collaboration toolincluding spaces, tabs, and breaks, allowing users to distinguish them more easily.
Feature, available now after announcement (opens in a new tab) in the Google Workspace Updates blog post, it also includes line, paragraph, section, page, and column break markers and can be enabled from the View menu in Google Docs view.
This feature is available to all Google Workspace and legacy G Suite customers and those with personal Google Accounts.
Google Docs is catching up
As reported by Edge (opens in a new tab)although markup for nonprinting characters may seem basic and desired function (opens in a new tab)on which users had to rely until now third party add-ons such as “Show” (opens in a new tab) for similar functionality.
However, it’s worth noting that I’m writing this article in Google Docs in my Google Workspace account right now, and I don’t currently have access to the “show non-printing characters” menu option or even in my personal Google account, so it may take some time for the feature to be available to everyone .
This is generally standard Google practice. In its announcement, the tech giant told users to expect a gradual rollout over 15 days from January 9, 2023.
